Ways to earn badges.

The number of ways you can earn GreenHive badges are virtually limitless, but to help point you in the right direction, we've created a list of some great ways to get started. We'll be updating the list monthly, so be sure to bookmark this page!

Badge Earning Ideas for All Seasons

FOOD

  • Find a local community garden in your area.

  • Make a calendar of your favorite fruits and vegetables with a timeline showing when they are in season.

  • Research other global sustainable food projects.

  • Eat a vegan diet for 2 weeks and share your experience to social media.

  • Cook all of your meals for one day using only seasonal ingredients.

  • Create a raised bed vegetable garden in your backyard.

  • Host a class, workshop, or zoom meeting demonstrating new ways of growing sustainable foods while providing practical experiences to local people.

  • Start a local community garden in your area.

EARTH

  • Clean up trash at your local park.

  • Share what you consider to be the most sustainable food item to the GreenHive Forum.

  • Visit the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and create a 30 second to 1 minute video about what you learned during your visit. Share video to the GreenHive Forum.

  • Create a pollinator garden at home.

  • Research Urban Agriculture and Landscaping laws and legislation in your state and create a 30 second to 1 minute video about what you learned. Share video to the GreenHive Forum.

  • Create a compelling 2-3 sentence statement explaining Climate Change.

  • Compare and contrast homemade compost to store bought / manufactured compost and submit a 250-500 word report to greenhive@rootsdownga.com

  • Explore and evaluate some of the solutions being proposed for global food system issues like food waste, diets, land use, and food deserts and submit a 250-500 word (minimum) report to greenhive@rootsdownga.com.

  • Make a list of sustainable clothing and shoe brands and share your list to social media encouraging sustainable living.

  • Set up an at home composting system.

  • Innovate/Research new ways to convert your recyclables/waste into alternative sustainable energy sources.

  • Go No Waste for 30 days and share your experience to social media or the GreenHive forum

  • Make a piece of art advocating for climate action. Submit to greenhive@rootsdownga.com FIRST and once approved, submit to a local politician of your choosing.

PEOPLE

  • Share that you are a part of the GreenHive on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.

  • Attend every Green Hive meeting for 1 month.

  • Attend every Green Hive meeting for 2 months in a row.

  • Attend every Green Hive meeting for 3 months in a row.

  • Attend 1 GreenHive event every month for 3 months in a row.

  • Refer 5 friends to join the GreenHive.

  • Attend every Green Hive meeting for 6 months in a row.

  • Create a GreenHive sticker design.

  • Host a GreenHive meeting.

  • Have 1 person join you while you both earn your next badge. Earning badges is more fun with a. buddy!

  • Create a presentation of what can be done to raise animals in ways that are more
    sustainable and humane and present at a GreenHive meeting.

  • Create a thorough analysis of an urban agriculture / food sustainability topic and present the report to greenhive@rootsdownga.com FIRST and once approved, submit to a local politician of your choosing.
